As society has stayed focused on the traditional gender roles it has brought on an ongoing struggle for women to be accepted in the male dominated and masculine institution of sports. Due to the increasing participation of girls and women in sports I will discuss how these gender roles have influenced the social structure of sport. The deep-rootedness of gender ideology means that everyone makes decisions based on it, from children, teenagers, parents to people in power. Gender ideology plays a big role in how sport has been carried out throughout the ages.
